The Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was invited to a White House dinner by President Donald Trump last month. The meeting wasn’t made public knowledge until now. Given that Zuckerberg had just testified before Congress about Libra, you can bet your bottom dollar that cryptocurrency was a big topic of conversation. The unknown meeting is what political strategists would call “bad optics.” The Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and board member Peter Thiel were both invited to a White House dinner by President Donald Trump last month but the meeting wasn’t made public knowledge until now. Facebook told NBC News about the secret meeting on Wednesday. The dinner took place at the White House while Zuckerberg was testifying to Congress in regards to his company’s upcoming Libra cryptocurrency. Bad optics This is something I never thought I’d write an article on but in an unexpected turn of events, it seems that the three met up for dinner.  Given that Zuckerberg had just testified before Congress about Libra, you can bet your bottom dollar that cryptocurrency was a big topic of conversation. Honestly, I’m surprised Trump didn’t take to Twitter after Zuckerberg left to announce the news… As per CCN: “It’s just as likely that the trio discussed the 2020 election or national security. Given the scope of Facebook’s surveillance power, it’s now a perfect channel for the US intel community.” Facebook has taken massive hits for its influence on US politics over the years and especially after Donald Trump’s unexpected victory three years ago now. The unknown meeting between a president running for re-election and the head of the biggest social media network in the world is what political strategists would call “bad optics.” It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
