The Coin Shark: What Critics Have to Say About the Fresh from the Oven Mortal Kombat 11
The day after Earth Day, April 23, 2019, is going to be devoted to the things that are way more bloody and horrific than the beauty of nature. Today the long-awaited game Mortal Kombat 11 finally launches.
General info
Mortal Kombat 11 is a computer video game in the genre of fighting, developed by the American studio NetherRealm Studios and published by WB Games. It will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows.
The game is a sequel to Mortal Kombat X and the 11th part of the main Mortal Kombat series.
Plot
After the defeat of Shinnok at the hands of Cassie Cage in Mortal Kombat X, Dark Raiden plans to defend the Earthrealm, destroying all his enemies, but a mysterious woman named Kronika, also known as the Keeper of Time, tries to restore order in the Universe by any means, including getting rid of Raiden for interfering with the past, as seen in the previous game and, therefore, an imbalance between the good and the evil.
Gameplay
Mortal Kombat 11 added new fighting techniques, namely, Fatal Blow and Krushing Blow. Fatal Blow is a special technique that damages the enemy severely, but becomes available only when the player’s health is below 30%. Fatal Blow is a substitute for the X-Ray technique and can only be performed once per match.
Moreover, Mortal Kombat 11 also features an outfit system similar to the latest NetherRealm Studios game in the DC universe – Injustice 2. However, the outfit system in Mortal Kombat 11 is mostly “cosmetic”.
Critics
The game was mostly perceived well by the community.
The IGN editors gave the game 9 out of 10 and called it the best part of the franchise.
On Metacritic, Mortal Kombat 11 received 83 points, based on the reviews of 40 experts. According to one of them:
“Mortal Kombat 11 is a major improvement for the franchise in all of its departments. The story mode is both appealing and fun for the player, and the fights are much closer than they used to be. It is, indeed, a delightful experience for the fighting game aficionado.”
51 reviewers from OpenCritic gave the game 82 points. Many of them also called Mortal Kombat 11 the best part of the series.
We would like to remind you that the 6th part of the iconic game Grand Theft Auto might be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 as soon as next year.
