cryptodaily.co.uk: Starbucks, Microsoft & Blockchain Solutions: How Long Until You Can Buy Coffee with BTC?
We’ve all heard of Starbucks, they are one of the biggest (if not the biggest) coffee giants in the world and they have been showing interest with blockchain and crypto for a long time now.
People are eager for the day when they can go into a Starbucks and buy a cup of coffee by using Bitcoin and whereas this is still some time off, the coffee giant is paying attention to blockchain and crypto.
Starbucks is reportedly looking to integrate with the tech giant Microsoft’s Azure Blockchain Service to track coffee production.
“It is an unsurprising move with blockchain’s benefits for supply chain well documented and the push for fairtrade coffee being bigger than ever.”
The integration with blockchain is part of the ‘bean to cup’ initiative which states that the company will work with farmers in Costa Rica, Colombia and Rwanda to pilot a blockchain-based coffee-tracking platform.
According to reports, the system will give customers to ability to track the production of their coffee. This has a lot of potential to increase financial opportunities for coffee farmers in these third-world countries.
Microsoft
Starbucks is expanding its operations out of the coffee space it seems. As previously reported Starbucks aren’t looking for customers to buy their coffee with Bitcoin but they aren’t happy to use underlying technology to keep expanding their reach.
The announcement of the Starbucks/Microsoft partnership at the software giant’s Build developers conference, the two companies explained a number of initiatives that they aren’t actually working together.
As reported by Ethereum World News:
“The new projects include everything from using machine learning to gather customer preferences, to connecting coffeemakers in stores to the internet to blockchain services for tracing coffee.”
Satya Nadella is the CEO of Microsoft appeared excited about the collaboration that will help Starbucks up its customers experience through technology.
Nadella said:
“They are coming together to completely take what is that iconic experience that is Starbucks and incorporating digital throughout.”
It seems that even though Starbucks is interested in blockchain and cryptocurrency, it will be some time until we get to pay for our morning coffee with Bitcoin.
