cryptodaily.co.uk: Solana-based Music dApp Audius Launches NFT Embed Features, Twitter and Discord Integration
Audius, a decentralized music streaming platform, has announced the release of a new functionality which would allow its users to embed non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on social platforms such as Twitter and Discord.
According to Audius, the new feature can be enabled by connecting an active Audius account with Phantom wallet, the primary crypto wallet for the Solana ecosystem. It is also available through MetaMask, for Ethereum-based NFTs.
“NFT holders can embed their collectibles from the two biggest blockchains on Twitter timelines, personal blogs, and websites. Thanks to this new feature, will further push collectibles into the mainstream,” Audius stated.
Audius began sometime in 2018 backed by a $5.5 million Series A funding round securing its early days, with the aim of resolving the difficulties of music distribution and music content ownership which has plagued centralized, non-blockchain-based platforms such as Spotify and Soundcloud. The platform hosts several mainstream artists such as Deadmau5, Skrillex, Katy Perry, Nas, The Chainsmokers, Jason Derulo, and Pusha T joining its artist community. The platform has since grown over the past year in terms of active user base now counting over 7 million accounts, while its native token, $AUDIO, recently saw over 1,000% in price increase. Earlier in August, Audius formed a partnership with TikTok, a social video app, to enable uploads of music from Audius to its user’s creations.
The new embed functionality allows platforms like Twitter and Discord to display previews of NFT metadata. This embed functionality is compatible with both Ethereum and Solana NFTs, and would provide artists and potential NFT collectors with an easier means of glancing through a work’s info. The move from Audius represents a renewed push towards mainstreaming NFTs and creating music as NFTs for a broader audience.
In recent news, Twitter has disclosed that it is forming what it has dubbed as Twitter Crypto, a team that would explore “crypto, blockchains, and other decentralized technologies,” according to its new head, Tess Rinearson, who was part of the Interchain Foundation as VP of Engineering. Rinearson is one of the core developers of Cosmos and Tendermint Core, a proof-of-stake consensus engine.Discord, on the other hand, has stepped back from introducing NFT features to its communication platform, after a series of heated reactions from its community.
