The Coin Shark: NASA Launched a Satellite to Study the Earth’s Ionosphere

The United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched a carrier rocket with the ICON satellite, created to study the Earth’s ionosphere, on Thursday, the official website of NASA announced. The Northrop Grumman Stargazer L-1011 aircraft, that served as a platform for air launch, took off from the runway of the US Air Force base at Cape Canaveral in Florida and reached an altitude of about 11.9 km. The aircraft managed to drop the carrier rocket with the satellite on the second attempt after 30 minutes.
