The Coin Shark: Microsoft Blockchain Service Will Help Starbucks To Track Coffee From “Farm To Cup”
One of the biggest coffeehouse chains in the world, Starbucks, will use Microsoft Blockchain service to provide its customers with more information about coffee beans that are in their coffee. The main idea of such cooperation is to track beans from “farm to cup” using a blockchain system.
According to the statement made by Microsoft, their blockchain service will record all the details about sourcing, roasting, tasting notes, and, of course, shipment. The data will be saved on a shared ledger which is 100% safe and sound.
The users will be able to see all the data in their mobile app, which was upgraded specially for these purposes. It will provide customers with a “more complete view” of the supply chain.
Starbucks executive vice president and chief technology officer, Gerri Martin-Flickinger, said:
“We have a world-class team of technologists engaging in groundbreaking innovation each day. Their inventiveness and intellectual curiosity are matched by their dedication to enabling the Starbucks experience, and this is increasingly critical to how technology has to show up for us.”
Starbucks hopes that this cooperation will also help beans growers to boost their business, providing information that the beans transportation details. According to the release, Starbucks sourced beans from over 380,000 coffee farms in 2018.
