Crypto.com has announced the airdrop of an exclusive collection of NFTs featuring LA Lakers legend LeBron James to 5,500 randomly selected fans.

The fans who received the NFTs were eagle-eyed enough to spot and scan a hidden QR code in the Super Bowl commercial for Crypto.com featuring LeBron James. The collection, dubbed “The Moment of Truth,” features instant snapshots of behind-the-scenes moments from the shooting of the Super Bowl commercial and consists of 15 NFTs in three tiers and various editions.
Crypto.com announced the launch by tweeting,
“Introducing “The Moment of Truth” NFT Collection featuring LeBron James. Airdropping to a random selection of sleuths who found the hidden QR code in our Big Game Spot”
The fans who successfully spotted the QR code that appeared on the screen during the commercial for a split second and had the quick mind to scan it were redirected to a secret webpage where they signed up for the Crypto.com NFT platform. As a result, 5,500 of these randomly selected fans who registered have received an NFT for free.
LeBron x Crypto.com To Educate Kids
LeBron has already entered into a partnership with Crypto.com, which was announced back in January 2022. The partnership seeks to improve the awareness about digital assets and enable students to learn about cryptocurrency through the “I Promise” program, which was established by the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) in 2015.
LeBron said,
"I want to ensure that communities like the one I come from are not left behind. Crypto.com and I are aligned on the need to educate and support my community with the information and tools they need for inclusion. I’m looking forward to working with them to bring these opportunities to my community."
All proceeds from secondary market sales of these NFTs will go to the LJFF.
The Story Behind The Commercial
The commercial, which is the immediate inspiration for the NFTs, is a glimpse into a pivotal moment in LeBron’s life when as a young 18-year-old, he had to decide between college or the NBA. Speaking on the decision to feature the ad around this moment, the Creative Director at Crypto.com, Ben Lay, said,
“We wanted to immortalize this very human story about making big decisions. We were initially quite nervous to present the storyboard to him, as it touches on a very personal moment in his life. But he loved the idea instantly. LeBron James is an icon, but his history and upbringing is the reason we can all connect with him, and what makes this story so powerful.”
