cryptodaily.co.uk: International Communications Group Now Accepting Bitcoin
One of the world’s largest media and communications groups have recently announced a huge move that could see subsidiaries of the company start to allow their customers to pay for their bills using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
AT&T, are an American multinational group based in Texas:
“AT&T is the world's largest telecommunications company, the second largest provider of mobile telephone services, and the largest provider of fixed telephone services in the United States through AT&T Communications. Since June 14, 2018, it is also the parent company of mass media conglomerate WarnerMedia, making it the world's largest media and entertainment company in terms of revenue.”
This latest announcement promises to give Bitcoin and cryptocurrency investors a new route for their investments, by allowing to settle phone bills and the likes by making cryptocurrency payments to AT&T.
The announcement comes as Bitpay, a leading Bitcoin payment provider have announced a partnership with AT&T, during which it has been made clear that Bitpay will be handling the transactions on behalf of AT&T. As you probably know, Bitpay allow for payments via more than just Bitcoin and currently accepts a number of other leading cryptocurrencies too, including Bitcoin Cash and a number of stablecoins such as Paxos.
According to The Verge:
“You can now pay your AT&T bill using cryptocurrency thanks to a partnership between the mobile operator and the BitPay payment service. You’ll be able to pay using cryptocurrency either on AT&T’s website or through its myAT&T app. Although AT&T proudly advertises that it’s the first mobile operator in the US to accept cryptocurrency, it’s far from the first major business overall. Earlier this month a group of retailers that included Whole Foods, Nordstrom and GameStop all announced that they would be accepting payments using cryptocurrency via the payment network Flexa.”
Overall this is a very positive move. As one of the biggest firms in the United States, this really sets the scene for future partnerships between huge communication firms and cryptocurrency companies in the country. Overall, this also promises big things for Bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption in the United States and could lead to more partnerships of this kind in the coming years. Hey, perhaps this could also encourage AT&T to start pumping some money into the markets, wouldn’t that be interesting?
