The Coin Shark: Gemini Crypto Exchange Added Full SegWit Support

  • Wednesday, 17 April 2019 16:30
On April 15, Tyler Winklevoss, one of the founders of Gemini exchange, announced the launch of the full support of SegWit. Very proud of our team! @Gemini becomes the first major exchange to launch full support of SegWit, complete with native SegWit deposit addresses by @bajohns https://t.co/Xbbn6uVqqB — Tyler Winklevoss (@tylerwinklevoss) 15 апреля 2019 г. “As part of the upgrades this year, we introduced support for Segregated Witness (SegWit) addresses and transaction batching,” it is said in the official announcement. The exchange also noted that the decision to integrate SegWit aims at increasing the number of transactions in blocks and at improving the safety of the industry. “As block space is limited, any decrease in transaction size allows for more transactions per block and greater overall throughput in the network”, it is explained in the announcement. Such a step is the result of a year-long exchange work in the direction of a crypto listing upgrade, improvement of customer experience, and adoption of best practices for network usage. Despite the fact that other exchanges, including Coinbase and Bitfinex, has already activated the protocols upgrade in their infrastructure, Gemini exchange positions itself as “the first major exchange to launch full support of SegWit, complete with native SegWit deposit addresses”. Gemini announcement ends with the call to action. In their representatives’ opinion, clients should move to use SegWit addresses as soon as possible.
