The Coin Shark: Africans can pay utility bills with ETN tokens
Africans can pay utility bills with ETN tokens?
The Electroneum cryptocurrency payment network, which is popular in the African continent, is expanding its range of services. Now its users can pay bills for consumed electricity, mobile communications and other services using ETN tokens
About Electroneum Platform
The number of platform users is constantly growing. Electroneum currently has over 4 million registered users. So Africans are mastering cryptocurrency at a cosmic pace.
According to company employee Nigel Pooley, the bulk of ETN token users are freelancers working for AnyTask.
It is a platform for freelancers where they can find work, complete it and get paid in tokens. Then they can be spent on paying bills or recharging a cell phone.
Previously, users transferred payments in cryptocurrency to other accounts through third-party agents. This was inconvenient and came with an additional commission. Now the situation has improved.
Paying in tokens has become possible thanks to the establishment of direct partnerships with energy companies and mobile operators. Among them, by the way, The Unlimited in South Africa and Cellcard in Cambodia.
The path to leadership
In January, the company announced it was expanding its service coverage to four more countries on the continent. The application has extended to Benin, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire and Sierra Leone.
So now utility bills are available for 10 countries, including even such large ones as Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
