The Coin Shark: A Boy Sells His Pictures Using Lightning Network to Buy a Nintendo Switch

We have already covered the topic of Bitcoin Lightning Network, mainly talking about its technological features, the milestones it passed and the problems it could solve. But we never really mentioned any real use cases of this innovative technology. Today we will share with you one particular example of a person using Lightning Network, which is extremely adorable. Here is a site, called Lightning Pictures, which sells unique pictures and sketches via the Network. It doesn’t seem that interesting or exciting, does it? Wait till you find out a bit more about this whole endeavour. This WordPress-based site was created and is now run by a 9-year-old boy, whose name is Dennis. He likes “drawing, computer games and doing bitcoin stuff with my dad”. This little entrepreneur sells his own pictures and sketches on Lightning Pictures, charging BTC for them. The reason he started the whole thing is very cute: “I really want to buy a Nintendo Switch, but I only get $2 a week pocket money. My dad said if I wanted one, I have to earn the money myself,” is mentioned in the “About me”section of the site. Dennis offers 2 options: a quick more basic sketch for $2 or 0.00029000 BTC; a more detailed and customized “awesome” picture for $10 or 0.00290000 BTC. Although on the global scale of Bitcoin Lightning Network, it is a rather small step, it is exactly such little links in the chain that make up the basis of any technology. Furthermore, seeing such young bright minds using cutting-edge technologies all by themselves and their parents supporting them, leaves us hope for the better future of the mankind.
