The sample size seems like an easy enough concept to understand and sure, everyone kind of, sort of knows what the sample size represents. However, if you ask most people for a definition, relevant examples and detailed explanations, the responses will usually be... well, let's say sub-optimal. Simply put: the sample size is a concept most people think they understand but actually don't. At least not meaningfully.
