From 2020's post-March stock permabulls who firmly believe shares only go up to let's say stock permabears and gold permabulls who believe a return to the Gold Standard is imminent and that the financial system as we know it is on the brink of collapse, examples of permabulls and/or permabears abound. As such, from definition to examples involving various asset classes, it's time to put the concept under the proverbial microscope. At the end of the day, why do people choose to for example become permabulls or bears? As explained in this video, reasons abound. Some do it due to being emotionally attached to a certain asset class, for example the emotional appeal associated with owning a home. Others for ideological reasons, for example those who subscribe to certain money-related ideologies becoming gold permabulls. The list of examples could continue but at the end of the day, this much is certain: no matter what the reason(s) behind your decision may be, becoming a permabear and/or permabull is pretty much always a sub-optimal choice and as explained through this video, reason rather than emotion needs to prevail.
