The Winklevoss Twins who famously sued Facebook’s Mark Zuckerburg and turned the money they made from that settlement into a bitcoin fortune have now filed a lawsuit against one of Bitcoin’s most famous faces, 28 year old Charlie Shrem. Back in 2012, Shrem helped them invest in Bitcoin. According to the New York Times, the lawsuit claims, that Shrem stole 5,000 Bitcoin from the Winklevoss twins, which would now be worth around $32 million.
Shrem’s lawyer said, “the lawsuit erroneously alleges that about six years ago Charlie essentially misappropriated thousands of Bitcoins, nothing could be further from the truth. Charlie plans to vigorously defend himself and quickly clear his name.” Shrem who was only 24 at the time spent one year in prison for the facilitation of drug purchasing using Bitcoin. According to court documents, the judge who presided over this previous trial has now decided to freeze some of his assets.
Nasdaq believes it can lead the battle against cryptocurrency market manipulation and fraud. According to a bloomberg report this week, NASDAQ said that its market surveillance technology can stamp out manipulation in the crypto space.
