One disadvantage of nascent asset classes is the relative lack of established sources of investment data, research and valuations. Without these, it is difficult for institutional investors to understand the fundamentals that drive portfolio allocations. Progress is being made, however: the quality of research from both market participants and independent houses is steadily increasing, giving a broader range of investors access to insight and metrics for individual assets and for the sector as a whole.
