I had been researching the Genomic sector a bit in middle of 2019. Science has succeeded in mapping complete DNA string (Genome) of a human in 2007, and even editing it (CRISPR). This will likely revolutionize the medical sector as it allows to change our DNA and truly solve, instead of just treat, many serious medical conditions and deadly diseases such as cancer or diabetes. First job is to bring down costs dramatically to map a person's genome, which Illumina ($ILMN) has been focused on and brought it down from $1B to $1k per person today. Problem for me is that I have zero medical knowledge, and also don't want to follow up on more investments, therefore my preference goes out to the managed fund of Ark Invest ($ARKG) instead of investing directly in the companies myself. Also think in contrast to EV revolution where Tesla is taking the whole EV market with no other investable players, this medical field will likely cause a cambrian explosion of new medical startups, with likely higher returns than the market leader Illumina, making a fund with it's disadvantages of trimming down winners to keep exposure to max 10% and thereby losing upside, still worthwhile.
