  • Thursday, 16 July 2020 06:50
The Twitter accounts of some of U.S.’ highest-profile political figures, business leaders and crypto exchanges were hacked on July 15 in an apparent Bitcoin scam. The attacks were apparently coordinated. The Twitter accounts hacked included Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, former U.S. President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden. Prominent figures in the crypto community were also targeted including Binance, Gemini, Coinbase, Bitcoin.org and even CoinDesk. The hackers directly promoted a single bitcoin address. The wallet had received 12.8 BTC in over 370 transactions. The most prevalent address received $120,000 in bitcoin from 375 transactions. Twitter stocks fell 4% when news of the hack surfaced.
