Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency space as a whole has had a rough March. Bitcoin has fallen from above $11k to around $8k while altcoins have bled even worse as Bitcoin dominance rises. Steemit Post: https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@cryptovestor/lightning-strikes-why-bitcoin-is-still-a-bubble As always, we're all looking for reasons why the market has fallen but I wanted to issue a key reminder that I (emphasis on I) still view Bitcoin and all other cryptocurrencies as a bubble. Very few of them fulfill the lofty goals people have set for them, with Bitcoin in particular hardly being used as a payment mechanism because of: 1) Security concerns with holding private keys 2) Immutability is a double-edged sword: Returns are a pain and mistakes can't be rectified 3) The UI is awful if you can't use payment request QR codes 4) The fees are volatile 5) While payments may settle quicker than traditional systems when the network isn't under heavy load, the fact there are no "takebacks" or ways to "correct" a mistake after settlement means that it is inconvenient for merchants to accept zero confirmation transactions 6) Price is volatile 7) etc. As a result, most merchants just use processors like Bitpay which instantly convert Bitcoin into USD, which in that case, is it really accepting Bitcoin anymore? It's just another method for accepting USD. Several of these arguments hold up for all other cryptocurrencies as well, even if some solve the issues of speed of settlement and fees. Even for cryptoassets that aim to be platforms, like Ethereum, generally offer almost no decentralized applications that have any real use. It's also worth noting that decentralization is really not well-fit for mass adoption - Normal people NEED customer support and ways to fix mistakes, which truly decentralized projects can't offer reasonably. The point isn't that blockchain technology isn't meaningful or useful, just that these cryptoassets aren't worth even remotely close to what they are being priced as today - so price doesn't need a whole lot of reason to fall for those who feel convinced for certain that the space is undervalued. As for some catalysts that COULD be contributing to prices coming down, we discuss: 1) Mt. Gox trustee fears 2) Google Ad Ban 3) US Congressional Hearing on ICOs On the positive side, we discuss the first live beta implentation of Lightning by Lightning Labs. I'm super excited to see how it behaves in practice. Based on the amount of nodes we had using Lightning prior to this, it should be interesting to see what developers do now with the Lightning Lab implementation. It's unfortunate that this news is overshadowed by price action (and yes, I am aware that I am contributing to that), but I encourage everyone to keep a close eye on what occurs on the main net and what developers have to say. What are your thoughts on the market? I'd love to hear them - Thank you for watching / reading! ================ If you like my content, you can support me through using ANY of the affiliate links below (I receive small compensation). The beauty of affiliate links is that I can pick and choose what I like rather than have companies approach me - everything I linked below (with the exception of Trezor since I like Ledger), I use myself frequently. ================ My Recommended Hardware Wallets: If you want to store your cryptocurrencies safely, the best way is through a hardware wallet. Seriously - look it up and you'll find plenty of information supporting this claim. There are alternatives such as paper wallets, but these are convenient and my choice for cold storage (offline): Ledger Nano S: http://amzn.to/2hZPj0q Trezor: http://amzn.to/2AxD9TN Ledger Blue (expensive): http://amzn.to/2hk7xst I personally prefer the Ledger Nano S, but the Trezor is such a close second that it really doesn't matter which one you go with. ================ My Favorite Book for Investing in Crypto: Cryptoassets: http://amzn.to/2zKDdCF ================ My Recommended Exchanges: Coinbase / GDAX / Bittrex https://www.coinbase.com/join/5a08b12e305a1401d79d10e0 If you sign up to Coinbase using link above, you and I will both receive $10 each after you buy your first $100 of Bitcoin using Coinbase. Coinbase is much less intimidating for beginners. Once ready, move up to GDAX for cheaper or zero fees. For altcoins, I recommend Bittrex. ================ Legal Stuff: I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. It has been brought to our attention that peoples, coins just disappear and are unable to be withdrawn at specific times. The root cause of this can be in some cases associated to a lack of attention to detail or more directly irresponsible projects sleeping at the wheel and not being accountable to investors.

Think about it, exchanges are where EVERYONE goes to access cryptocurrency. This is where the investors go to buy, where day traders go to trade, they are where hackers go to get your coins, and where governments go to regulate. Exchanges are the access point for everyone. It is for this reason that exchanges especially need to be as decentralized as possible. As I mentioned earlier, EtherDelta is, or was technically classified as a decentralized exchange because they did not act as a custodian for your coins. Even IDEX, the other decentralized exchange I featured two days ago isn’t technically completely decentralized. IDEX has a public CEO. Meaning one man is at the head of this exchange, and one man who can be pursued and pressured by governments, or hackers. Again, certainly not an ideal situation and I’m sure that many wouldn’t qualify this as being completely decentralized. Thanks to the awesome tip from a commenter on a previous video, I want to share with you all a website that displays different decentralized exchanges with the type of protocols they use along with pointing out which ones are fully decentralized. There aren’t that many that make the cut on this website, but one that does qualify as fully decentralized is Blocknet DX. Blocknet is a protocol that allows nodes of different blockchains to essentially communicate with each other. The Blocknet network itself is its own blockchain, comprised of service nodes and staking nodes. The service nodes provide the computer power that enables Blocknet’s capabilities and ultimately protects the order book. Staking nodes protect the network by using Proof of Stake. Both of these receive rewards with the service nodes receiving 70% of the block reward, and staking nodes receiving 30% of the block reward. All fees on this network are paid in Blocknet’s coin, BLOCK. This also explains why they have their own wallet available. One of the first dApps created with this protocol is the Blocknet DX. With Blocknet DX, you don’t have to worry about sending your coins from your wallet and onto an exchange, like you would have to do with IDEX. The trades done with this DEX is truly peer-to-peer, wallet to wallet. Also, unlike EtherDelta or IDEX, Blocknet DX opens the door for different blockchains to interact, meaning you can use it to trade Bitcoin for Litecoin, or PIVX, or Dash, and a number of other options. If you’re interested in adding a coin to Block DX it’s free to do so and according to their website, it generally requires no coding. They’ve just released a new version of their wallet and you can also now find new documents that help you understand better how this all works. When you download their wallet onto your desktop keep in mind that you will also be downloading the Blocknet blockchain, so you’ll need 1GB of storage available initially and this storage requirement will grow over time. Once you have the wallet installed, and the blockchain has synched, you’ll notice you can access the Blocknet DX right from within your wallet. You can also pretty easily set up a staking node within your wallet, you’ll need 5000 BLOCK coins to qualify for this.
